Flare-Ups Can Take Over Daily Life for People with Eczema and Psoriasis
Worldwide, a combined 348 million people suffer from these conditions.

"Flared-up skin is like a brick wall with cracks letting impurities in, causing irritation and risking infection. . .the sooner you can get emollient on the better you can control the dry, itchy, inflamed skin and protect your self.’’
Dr Emma Swarbrick l Dermatologist I Newcastle Royal Infirmary

Current Packaging Solutions Make On-the-Go Application Difficult
Most packaging is messy, inconvenient, unhygienic and stigmatizing, especially when used outside the home, leaving skin vulnerable to triggers. Poor consideration for the user often leaves people feeling helpless in managing their condition.

Grab and Go, Mess Free Emollient Application
A convenient, mess-free emollient applicator that gives people with dry skin conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis, the freedom to effectively manage flare-ups on the go.

Control
The tactile twist gives control over portioning and the soothing, cool metal head allows users to apply the cream mess free.

Portability
Cari is compact and robust, giving you flexibility on-the-go without changing your lifestyle. Its flat, rounded shape allows it to slip easily into pockets.

Refillable
Pod refills are more hygienic, last longer, use less material, and are easier to recycle due to the self-cleaning wiper system.

De-stigmatising and Personalization
People are given back the feeling of control over their condition by being able to pick the emollient thickness, applicaton head, and the colour of the case.
Refilling

Warning Before Empty
The progress bar indicates you how much is left when you reach the last quarter of the pod.

Remove Old Pod
When empty, pinch and hold both buttons on the lid to remove, along with the head and pod.

Dispose of Pod
Drop the empty pod into the recycling bin by relaxing pressure on the buttons.

Remove Film
The emollient residue is sandwiched between layers of film and is peeled off and disposed.

Load New Pod
Insert new pre-filled pod into head. It is then ready to be Inserted back into the case.

Close Lid
While holding the quick-release button, press the pod and lid back down into place.
Components
1) Lid
2) Head release button and mechanism
(flex joint)
3) Plunger
4) Progress Bar - shows how much is left with colour change
5) Quick Release - allows thread to separate for
easy refilling
6) Body Shape - The concave shape allows for
grip and a textured finish means grease
marks don’t show
7) Feedback Bumps - gives tactile feedback to control dosing

Self-cleaning Pods
The head and plunger pierce the polypropylene film while pushing up the cream. The silicone ring on the plunger wipes the HDPE pod clean as it goes; sandwiching the film together at the top, making it easier to dispose of separately.

“ I like that I’m covered whenever I need it... like walking into Uni in the morning, the change from cold air to central heating dries my skin. I like that it’s so small, very discreet and fits with the usual things I carry everyday (keys, wallet, phone, lip balm). “
Christy Davidson | Psoriasis Suffer | Focus Group Participant

“ This is a great product because lots of people aren’t ready to talk about their skin and it makes them feel nervous and insecure. Leaving home can sometimes be the worst part of having a skin condition, causing a lot of anxiety. The best thing about this product is that it re-empowers people so they can go about and feel a bit more ‘normal’.
Katie Mackie | Skin Condition Awareness Podcast: Itch N B*tch

“ Having a sealed pod is great, it will be so much more hygienic and so much less cream will be contaminated and wasted. They’re recyclable which is a huge problem with most alternatives. Dermatologists always say, the best emollient is the one you have with you.”
